As with all de Rothschild properties they are big and generously appointed both in house and garden. So it is with a garden recently visited near Leighton Buzzard-Ascott house, the previous residence of Leopold de Rothschild ,given to him by his Uncle Mayer de Rothschild , Good Leopold obviously adored his wife and had some fabulous gardens planted as a gift to her. It is a fantastic example, for my money, of really excellent landscaping. There's a good balance of formal and naturalistic, albeit beautifully maintained with a great propensity for gold toned hedges.both holly and Yew. In the sun the richness of colour of the gold foliage is rich and a gorgeous contrast to green
.
The property is now owned by the NT. For readers who would like more info. please fill in the commnents slot or if you would like a personally accompanied trip to this gardens and maybe others in the area do email . details to the side of this blog
