The tranquility of Evenley Woods

If you have ever just wanted to get a bit lost in a wood ,a wood that was so quiet you could hear the birds sing loudly, a wood where trees and bushes were resplendant in flowers, where the sweet fragrance of blossom wasnt too far to sniff, then find your way on a weekend to Evenley Woods, just near Brackley in Northants.

On a recent tour around this lovely place with a Garden client  there were still quite a few Magnolia trees with early summer flowering blooms, not to mention exotically scented decidous Azaleas and Rhododendrons

. There is a drive edged in Crab apples and trees with Clematis scrambling through the branches, not to mention a huge selection of rare trees more of interest to the tree nurd [count me in !] Being a huge fan of all things richly yellow I was particulalrly delighted to be shown a gold leafed oak  ..utterly gorgeous !

In late June and July a veritable festival of Lilies, heady with exquisite fragrance are found all ovr the woods..one such grouping always takes my breath away..a big clump of orange flowers towering on 7' stems !
