Swathes of Daffs at Shotover

There were carpets of daffodils all over the place at Shotover House, on the eastern outskirts of Oxford.

Facing west from the house is a broad tree lined walk or drive down to a circular pond . From thence a walk up to a William Kent designed octagonal temple and then down a tight Lime [Tilia] edged walk to the house.

At the eastern side is a long canal ,the end of which sports a gothic revival folly ! These follies are all very well but by the time you get to it it's about time to enhance the opulence of the situation with a snifter, perhaps a glass of Champagne..but where's the bally fridge , glasses or liquor.?.Not a sign of it !  Surely these garden owners are missing a trick !

The tea and cakes at the house were good, especially since I didnt bother to walk to the end of the canal ..just half way !

Sadly this place doesnt seem to be open too often..check out more details at

Another place that has lots of Daffs in a huge drift is Waddesdon,  near Aylesbury..

Loved your point about snifters in the folly - sumthing all garden owners opening to the public should consider!
